"Believing that God is "the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the universe who still rules it today' is most common in Tulsa. It is least predominant in Boston and San Francisco."
This comes from Barna's latest report which "examines 28 faith factors among people in the 86 largest metropolitan areas and 27 most populous states" To read the entire article, click here.
"The Episcopal Church's new back-to-school TV advertisement produced in Spanish to reach Generation X viewers unaffiliated with any church is set to debut August 26 on Galavision, a cable network widely watched among Latinos."
From the Episcopal News Service:
The ads will air August 26-29 and September 9-12 nationwide as part of the advertising initiative launched by General Convention in 2003.
"With the growing number of native Spanish speakers in the United States as well as in the Episcopal Church, we felt that there was a strong need to produce ‘Monitors’ in both English and Spanish to maximize the potential reach of the spot,” said Mike Collins, director of broadcast and multimedia communication at the Episcopal Church Center in New York. “We've also made an effort to ensure that the spot receives strong play on Galavision, a Spanish language network that fits in very well with what we are trying to accomplish overall with the national advertising plan."
"This ad helps the Episcopal Church deepen its communication and outreach in Spanish among one of the largest demographic constituencies in the United States and the Americas," said the national church's director of communication, Canon Robert Williams.
"Spanish-language communication is a priority in the Office of Communication," Williams said. "Our staff includes fully bilingual professionals who work daily to introduce new and expanded resources that are creative and effective in Latin American contexts."
Williams said he looks forward to the formalization of Spanish-language websites and a communication advisory panel later this year.
"We are working to develop media resources that are culturally competent," Williams said. "The new TV ads give us a helpful beginning in this regard, yet there remains much future work to be done collaboratively to implement the best possible new ad concepts suggested by Spanish-speaking Episcopalians."
General Convention 2006 is less than a year away, and there will be many, many presentations and discussions about congregational development. Here's info about connecting with others who plan to be in Columbus, need housing, but won't be making arrangements through one of the deputation.
"Please share this information with those who are not deputies and will
be paying their own way to Columbus next summer.
Visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GC06RoomShare to connect with
others who want to share accommodations and expenses at General Convention 2006. If you already have a yahoogroups.com identity, you need only to sign
in with your Yahoogroups identity and password. Otherwise you will be
invited to create a free yahoogroups identity and password.
In this group people may connect to explore sharing accommodations
while attending The 75th General Convention of the Episcopal Church in
Columbus, OH, June 13-21 2006.
The site is unofficial, and the group owner/moderator assumes no
responsibility for the authenticity of the information that persons
post here or in private mail following up on posts here. We hope that all
material posted here is in good faith. We also hope that persons will post
references that may be checked. Minimally every person who posts should give
her or his parish name and location; home street, town, state and zip; and a
brief explanation of what role the person expects to play at the General
Convention.I hope that this venue will help people connect to reduce their costs.
I also welcome people in the Columbus area who wish to use this site to let
people know of bed & breakfast opportunities, home and parish hospitality.
This is not a group to discuss the issues of General Convention. Anyone
doing so will be subject to removal. There are many other venues for
that. Mainly the group should function as a bulletin board would in your
parish hall. It should help you connect, but the details of your connection
should move immediately offline."

An online course on Asian American Mininistry and Theology in the Episcopal Church begins in October.
Sponsored by CDSP and Episcopal Asiamerica Ministries, the course will include demographics, history, and principles of Asian American Ministry. This will be a great course (the instructor is the talented and dynamic Missioner of EAM, the Rev. Dr. Fred Verara), and the cost is right ($100 or less). For more info, email trbrown@cdsp.edu
